Meet the Company

Origins

Collateral & Co. Contemporary Dance Company was founded in May 2017 when Founder and Artistic Director Caitlin McCarty returned home to the Reno, Nevada area after working for New York based Gallim Dance. Collateral & Co. explores the intricacies of the human experience and investigates the nuances of everyday life through exploration of written word, physical and emotional experiences, and bodily expression.

The company’s recent works include performances at the Nevada Museum of Art in April 2019 for "Dust Horizon," the production of The Poetry Movement, a 2018 Artown site specific dance performance at Sundance Books and Music in collaboration with Around the Stage, Nevada Humanities, and local choreographers and poets, and Reno Little Theater in November 2017 for the premiere of their first work "Gunpowder and Femme.” The company has performed site specific works at the Nevada Humanities 2018 Literary Crawl and at the Nevada Museum of Art in the Spring of 2019.

Collateral literally means situated side by side, parallel. It is through this life that we move side by side, our lives running parallel to one another, to disaster, to life, to death, to love, to peace. It is our objective to attempt to make sense of life’s collateral, to understand why there is hate when there is so much love, why there is disaster despite growth, and to understand how we might live side by side through the negative to feel the collateral of the positive.
